Meet Kathryn

Hello! I’m Kathryn—horticulturist, garden designer, and owner of Sea Blush Garden & Design.

Why the name “Sea Blush?” Also known by its Latin name Plectritis congesta, Sea Blush is my favourite wildflower native to the Pacific Northwest. Blooming in spring, it inhabits the grassy ocean bluffs and rocky slopes that I love to explore here on Vancouver Island.

My horticultural journey began in 2023, when left a 20-year career in corporate and non-profit communications for a profession I am madly in love with. I have completed Level 3 of the Landscape Horticulture Apprenticeship Program and will take Level 4 in 2027 towards earning my Red Seal.

I am passionate about helping people connect with plants and making their outdoor spaces beautiful and uniquely individual to them, while encouraging biodiversity and supporting pollinators. My priority is to listen carefully to what my clients envision for their garden and make those dreams come true. I believe in creating meaningful connections with my clients through collaborative and fun working relationships.

When I am not in the garden, you can find me exploring and hiking Vancouver Island with my partner and children, baking, painting and reading.

About Sea Blush Garden & Design

  • Building relationships and nurturing trust with clients is the foundation—the soil—from which Sea Blush Garden & Design grows. Not only do I create beautiful gardens, I foster positive experiences and partnerships so clients feel understood, heard and appreciated.

  • These values speak to the heart of Sea Blush Garden & Design:

Connection—Creating meaningful relationships (and working in collaboration) with clients so they may experience a greater connection with nature.

Creativity—Blending artistic vision with sustainable horticultural practices to create a garden that is beautiful, healthy and in harmony with the local ecosystem.

Integrity—Doing the right thing, even when it’s hard. Operating from strong moral principles and consistently acting with honesty, accountability and transparency.

Nature—Understanding the interconnection between humans and nature. Helping clients feel a strong emotional attachment to the beauty of nature—which, in turn, promotes positive mental health and well-being.

Stewardship—Responsibly managing and caring for what clients' entrust to me: their gardens—at the same time, ensuring the health and biodiversity of the ecosystems to which those gardens belong.

  • Vision: To create beautiful, sustainable gardens that serve as personalized sanctuaries for relaxation and enjoyment, deepen the connection between people and nature, and foster health and well-being.

Mission: To help people experience serenity and happiness through the beauty of their gardens.
